Ritz Gets a $17 Makeover and Keeps the Same Outfit

A server at a fancy Texas hotel placed a packet of Ritz crackers on a plate, then cut open the plastic packaging with the sort of flourish usually reserved for caviar. The crackers remained Ritz crackers throughout the procedure, but emerged with a bill of $17.

TikTok user Brooke Kronschnabel, who posts as @brookekron, filmed the unusual tableside performance at Bowie House, an Auberge hotel in Texas. Her clip shows the server carefully opening the packet as though its familiar golden contents might object to being handled without ceremony.

“This fancy restaurant server opened a pack of ritz crackers like it was caviar,” Kronschnabel wrote in the on-screen text. She then drew the obvious lesson from this display of luxury hospitality: “I’m going to start doing this for my kids.”

The video went viral, attracting 160,200 views. In the comments, Kronschnabel explained that the order cost an astonishing $17, although the crackers did arrive with three dips. It was therefore not merely a packet of supermarket biscuits being introduced to a plate, but a packet of supermarket biscuits being introduced to a plate and some supporting condiments.

Kronschnabel said she shared the encounter because of the contrast between the extremely ordinary snack and the exceptionally grand presentation.

“I wanted to post it because it was truly funny in the moment that the server was acting like the bag of Ritz was a can of caviar or a truffle that needed to be shaved,” she said.

Nothing in the footage suggests the server attempted to disguise the crackers or pretend they had been individually baked in a secluded Alpine monastery. The plastic packet was right there on the plate, receiving a formal opening in full public view. The transformation was entirely ceremonial: one moment, Ritz; the next, Ritz with posture.

The encounter has since spread online as viewers contemplated what happens when a familiar snack enters an expensive room. At Bowie House, the answer appears to be three dips, attentive service and a substantial rise in confidence.

Kronschnabel’s proposed next step is to bring the same ritual home for her children. No specialist equipment has been mentioned beyond a plate, the original packaging and sufficient commitment to the performance. For now, the hotel’s crackers have achieved internet fame without changing their recipe, appearance or outfit — proof that even a Ritz can become luxury cuisine if somebody opens the packet slowly enough.
