Heidi Klum Wins Halloween Single-Handedly

Heidi Klum unveiled a giant severed hand for her 2026 Halloween costume. After years of elaborate transformations, she has finally become something that can applaud itself.

Heidi Klum arrived at her 2026 Halloween party as her own giant severed left hand, complete with long red nails, jewellery and enough dangling ligaments to make a manicure feel rather beside the point.

The supermodel-turned-TV personality unveiled the bloody transformation in New York on Saturday, 25 years after she began hosting her much-anticipated annual Halloween event. Having spent decades turning up as increasingly elaborate creatures, she has now become something that can, in theory, applaud itself.

Klum was unrecognisable inside the gruesome hand, with only her eyes and mouth visible. Blood dripped from her mouth as she stuck out her tongue, while the wrist end of the costume finished in a gory assortment of tendons and ligaments. An ensemble of helpers in blood-stained hazmat suits completed the reassuring scene.

The idea came to Klum last year when she was studying her own hand and apparently saw not an ordinary extremity, but spacious seasonal accommodation.

“I looked at my hand and I thought, ‘Hey, I think I could fit my body in this somehow,’” she said.

The finished costume was specifically modelled on her left hand. As well as the long red nails, it featured a thumb ring, her engagement ring and wedding band, plus replicas of her palm lines and veins. Her husband, musician Tom Kaulitz, could not attend because he was on tour, but his name appeared as a tattoo on the costume’s ring finger.

“A little bit of Tom is with me,” Klum said.

Getting inside the hand took about five to six hours, although making it took considerably longer. Earlier in the day, Klum posted hints on Instagram as bloodied prosthetics were applied to her face. The result answered the question of how far someone might take the phrase “handmade costume.”

Once assembled, the principal difficulty was less conceptual than practical.

“Hands down, the hardest thing is carrying it,” Klum said. “It’s quite heavy.”

The hand joins a long and increasingly improbable list of Klum’s Halloween transformations. In 2022 she went viral after arriving on the end of a fishing line, encased in a slithering worm costume.

Previous years have seen her dressed as the Greek mythological figure Medusa, a peacock, an eight-foot-tall, or 2.4-metre-tall, “Transformer,” and the werewolf from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” music video. She has also appeared as a clone accompanied by several Klum lookalikes, and as Kali, the multiarmed Hindu goddess of death and destruction.

This year, one enormous armoured extremity was apparently sufficient. With Kaulitz continuing his tour and the hazmat-suited helpers on hand, Klum’s immediate task was simply to bear the considerable weight of having won Halloween single-handedly.
