Chicken & Waffles Oreos Have Breached Containment

Oreo’s limited-edition lineup includes Chicken & Waffles, Deep Fried and Banana Pudding flavours. A reviewer concluded the 114-year-old biscuit had bitten off more than it could chew. Milk has declined to comment.

Chicken & Waffles is now an Oreo flavour, because apparently putting breakfast and dinner on the same plate was merely the first stage of the operation.

The 114-year-old sandwich biscuit is releasing three limited-edition varieties: Chicken & Waffles, Deep Fried and Banana Pudding. They are due to reach the public on 24 August 2026, following an advance tasting by reviewer Timothy Rawles on 13 August.

This is not simply a snack launch. It is also a consumer voting campaign, in which customers can choose their favourite flavour. The winner is expected to enter Oreo’s wholesale rotation beginning in 2027, giving one of these experiments the opportunity to stop being an incident and become an institution.

Rawles approached the assignment as an established biscuit enthusiast. Although he prefers soft-batch cookies to sandwich varieties, he still returns to Oreos because they work with cold milk, provide the traditional “twist and lick” activity and revive childhood memories.

Not all those memories are entirely tender. He recalled once becoming ill after eating a whole tray of Double Stuf Oreos over the course of an evening. This experience did not end his relationship with the brand, although it might reasonably have counted as a formal warning from the body.

Oreo has been around for 114 years, long enough to accompany every living American generation and, more recently, to discover collaborations. In 2021 it joined forces with Lady Gaga for a Chromatica-inspired biscuit. The release was a major success and became difficult to find on shop shelves unless buyers acted early.

Since then, unusual flavour combinations have become increasingly important across the snack aisle. Lay’s has tried non-traditional crisp flavours, while M&M’s has kept its test kitchen busy with creations including Banana Bread M&M’s.

The present moment has the atmosphere of returning snack wars, though with brands mostly remaining in their own categories rather than recreating the old cola battles. Even that boundary has proved flexible. In 2025, Coca-Cola released a zero-calorie Oreo-flavoured drink, while Mondelēz International produced a Coke-flavoured Oreo. Each product had apparently looked at the other and decided the safest course was mutual assimilation.

Rawles said he was initially “ecstatic” to receive the three new Oreos, reflecting his enthusiasm for the current fashion of combining unconventional flavours with shelf-stable snacks. His verdict, however, was that the venerable biscuit had bitten off more than it could chew, with some candidates more deserving of a vote and others, in his words, due to be “vetoed immediately.”

The public will now make the final decision after the limited release begins on 24 August. One flavour may secure a wider future in 2027. The accompanying cold milk has declined to comment.
